Taster days are just what they say they are: days that will give you a unique insight into what it’s like to be in the field, assisting scientists with wildlife research and conservation. They are set amongst the beautiful scenery of the UK’s National Parks, where you will be part of a small team, alongside a nature guide and your expedition leader. You will discover expedition and wildlife research and conservation skills such as working with a map, GPS and compass, collecting important animal data, reading animal tracks and signs, using telemetry equipment and wildlife camera traps. You will also learn about the National Park you are in, its fauna and flora, history and the conservation work going on inside.

On our wildlife habitat conservation holidays, you can get involved in a variety of different activities from scrub clearance through to haymaking, or removing poisonous ragwort so that cattle can graze and thus maintain traditional management regimes.

Your chance to get wet and muddy in the name of conservation! Butterflies, dragonflies, birds and rare plant life are all on the agenda on our wetland conservation breaks.

Thousands of miles of hedgerows have been lost as a result of agricultural change and urban development, and those remaining are often in a poor condition. Laying rejuvenates a hedge by encouraging new growth from the base, while the old stems are woven together to make a stock-proof barrier.

Visit some of the UK's most lovely woodlands and help ensure their future by carrying out some practical woodland management tasks. This can involve a variety of activities such as coppicing, woodland crafts, rhododendron clearance and tree planting.

Our volunteer placements offer a unique experience where guests gain a wonderful insight into the daily lives of our rescued primates. It is a chance in a lifetime. We are one of the only primate rescue centres outside of Africa where you get the unique opportunity to experience working with chimpanzees. The experience may just change your life forever.
