The Greenland Adventure Race (GAR) is a multi-sport event. The adventure race is held during 5 days in September in the beautiful and rough terrain in South Greenland. The tough competition is between teams of two where the runners have to cross a glacier and gushing streams, abseil down steep mountain sides, mountain bike through coarse and bumpy terrain, and kayak in and out between icebergs. The race is approximately 190 km. Each day's stage is completed anywhere between 4 hours for the fastest and 9 hours for the slowest teams.

Both the crew, the security personnel and the rest of the people behind the scene are volunteers participating in the event only for feeling the atmosphere and the satisfaction of giving the contesters the best possible experience. During the actual race 60-70 people work to make the race run smoothly. These volunteers are mostly officials and private boats from the region.

The event is annual since 2000. No person gains economically on the event, but many give their time in exchange for good company and gain in friendships and great memories.
