The World Heli Challenge is one of the most remarkable freeski and freeride events on the international event calendar.
Wanaka, New Zealand is home to this legendary event. A host of the worlds top skiers and boarders attend – Olympians, World Champions, legends and a crew of underdogs to keep the big names honest. Over a two week period they compete in “Extreme” and “Free Style” helicopter accessed competition. The goal is to find out who is the best all round athlete by combining their skills on very steep terrain and in aerial technique.
The three days are accessed by helicopter and with a nine day window. This ensures weather and snow conditions are at an optimum, allowing the most engaging display of style from the athletes and incredible media outcomes. During the other days and night of the period, the athletes interact with the general public, friends and visitors, taking on a host of adrenaline fueled adventure and lifestyle activities that the South Island of New Zealand is renowned for.
