In addition, you can use this site to arrange other aspects of your travel. You can find and book flight and rail tickets, accommodations, rent cars, and buy travel insurance, tickets for sport events, and tens of thousands related items from our store. Convenient, huh?
- Why did you divide all the activities into categories?
Currently, there are more than 220 kinds of extreme sports and activities and there definitely will be more. This list has been growing constantly. To make the list more organized for your convenience, we divided it into 6 categories. It's necessary to mention that it wasn't easy to assign a category to such activities as Canyoning (Land or Water?) or Underwater Ice Hockey (Winter or Water?) but we somehow managed :)
- DIY Extreme? What is that?
We called it Do-It-Yourself group because you don't need to look for a provider (there are simply none); you simply buy necessary gear and equipment and you can do it almost anywhere. Just don't hurt yourself.
- What kind of activities are not included into the list of all extreme sports and activities?
A few categories: illegal (e.g. street racing), animal cruelty (e.g. hunting and fishing), suicidal (e.g. over a waterfall in a barrel), and martial arts (have nothing to do with travel).
- Why did you separate Extreme, Adventure, and Sightseeing tours in different sections. Isn't it easier and more convenient to browse them all at once, like on any other "experience" website?
We don't think so. These 3 categories are very different. Extreme section tours are extreme sports and activities based experiences that require certain, usually above average, physical effort, they normally last from 10-20 minutes to several hours and, very often, have a set location away from the major cities. Adventure section tours are multi-day tours which, usually, take place in multiple locations in one or many countries. Sightseeing section tours usually require only a minimal physical effort, last a few hours or 2-3 days in rare cases, and take place in major cities. Therefore, browsing and finding an experience cannot be the same either. For example, browsing extreme tours is available on the per country, state/province, and extreme sport/activity basis while browsing sightseeing tours is available on the per country, city, and category basis. Adventure tours can be find on the per continent and country basis.
- What is an annual event box for?
Annual event is an extreme sport or extreme activity event which takes place at, usually, the same location once or, in rare circumstances, twice a year. You can find there extreme sports festivals, X Games, major endurance sports events, and certain local festivals with an "extreme" twist. And, you can participate in almost all of them!
- Why should I create a profile on ETJ?
First of all, you don't have to. You can certainly use the website without being logged in but such features of the website as rating tours and activities will not be available for you. However, this is not the reason why we ask you to spend 5 minutes to create your profile. The reason is the same as for any other online social network - to express yourself and let others know about your interests. In this case, about your passion towards extreme and adventure travel. As soon as you complete your profile, you instantly become a part of a community of like-minded thrill seekers. One f the major (let alone absolutely unique) benefits of our network is tht you can find other travelers who either have already done activities you're interested in or want to try them. In your region or somewhere else.
Unlike in case of many other social networks, all profiles are visible for everyone. You can, of course, set your profile "private" and no one will be able to see it but we don't recommend it. It's understood that we all have to be careful about posting our personal information online but, at the same time, we believe it's highly unlikely that your reputation would be somehow damaged by showing others how brave, adventurous, and strong you are. This site is not about drunk parties, or cheating on your spouse, or complaining about your boss. It's all about happy, healthy, and exciting lifestyle you have.
- Do I have to provide such sensitive information as my address, phone number, or credit card information?
NEVER! We mean it.
- What if I want to buy some tours or some items from your store? Then, I will have to, correct?
- No, incorrect. ETJ doesn't sell you anything. Whatever you can buy is being sold to you by one of many tour operators, gear and equipment merchants, insurance companies, or any other travel related companies ETJ has an affiliate agreement with. So, whenever you have to submit sensitive financial information to buy anything, you do it on the provider's website, not ETJ.
- So, whenever I get from ETJ to a provider's site to buy a tour or some gear, do I get the best deal?
Exactly. In any case, you don't pay anything to ETJ, there's no mark-up. You pay to an original provider a provider's price. ETJ doesn't have any influence on the price whatsoever. We can't and don't want to. We want you to get the best deal. Period.
- You have so many different tours and activities available all over the world but where are the prices? It's hard to compare the offerings. Why don't you display the prices?
We understand that it can be seen as quite an inconvenience for you but we chose not to display the prices for 2 reasons: 1. to amplify the fact that we don't sell you anything, we're just an information provider; and 2. we want you to get excited about the activity or a tour you like - these thrilling tours and activities are not about a price, it's all about an experience you will never forget and will brag about forever.
- There are quite a lot of banners and other ads. Haven't you heard that the ads are uncool?
We know the ads are uncool but these are not generic ads. Every single banner and every single link on this site is hand-picked to add the relevant content for you and placed only to the highly relevant pages. Also, the website is totally free to use and such revenue does provide us with the necessary resources to maintain and constantly improve your experience.
- Alright, fine. I created my profile. What does this sign in the top right corner mean?
Depending on how many activities you have tried and, accordingly, added to your profile, you get one of four possible levels of extreme. A Wanna-Be if you've never tried anything (we don't believe you, by the way); a Green Horn (if you've done 1 to 10); an Aficionado (11 to 40); and a Warrior (41 and more). The idea is to motivate you a bit to try more :)
- What is a Find Friend feature? How can I use it?
This is a 100% unique feature of our website. You can browse other thrill seekers based on wide variety of criteria. For example, you can find all the registered users in Texas who have done Mountain Biking, or all users in France who want to do Kite Surfing, or just all Joe Smith's. Up to you. You can definitely use this search to gather more people who want to do the activity you want to do at your location and, possibly, get together to have a discount from a provider while making new friends. Or, you can just ask for advice and share your knowledge when approached by some newbie.
- I wanted to upload my video but the warning note says it has to be a YouTube video only. What can I do?
Currently, at this early stage of the website's existence, YouTube is the only option. So, if you want to display your video for other extreme travel junkies, you have to upload it to YouTube first. We know it's an inconvenince for you and we plan to allow direct video upload in the future. But, for now, this is how it is.
- I believe I can write for your blog. How can I become a contributor?
It's easy. If you're good at it :) Write an informative and well-researched article about anything related to the field of extreme sports and activities or adventure travel and send it to us. If we like it, you can become our permanent contributor. We will like it if your article is well-written, informative, and helpful to our readers. We will not like it if it's too brief, filled with trivial information, and/or does not express any interesting point of view. Unfortunately, this might happen. If it does, we ask you to understand there's nothing personal but not everyone can write on this level. In such case, you're very welcome to express yourself on our Forum. Everyone is accepted there!
- I think I can write but what do you want me to write about?
We're glad you asked. Contact us and we'll provide you a bunch of ideas to write about.
